English 但尼丁上海协会
Dunedin Shanghai

Our mission is to promote and facilitate good relations between Shanghai and Dunedin for the benefit of the Dunedin business and wider Dunedin community, and our Shanghainese counterparts. We endeavour to achieve this by fostering educational, cultural, sporting, and business relationships between the two cities.

Dunedin Shanghai Association

The Mayors of the City of Dunedin (New Zealand) and the City of Shanghai (China) signed a Sister City Memorandum in 1994. Soon after this the Dunedin Shanghai Association (DSA) was formed to Pai Lou at Duskhelp develop the Sister City relationship. The DSA's Mission Statement is as follows: "To promote and facilitate good relations between Shanghai and Dunedin for the benefit of the Dunedin business and wider Dunedin community, and our Shanghainese counterparts." DSA endeavours to achieve this by fostering educational, cultural, sporting, and business relationships between the two cities. TheAssociation also plays a key role in facilitating and hosting a wide range of visitors and delegations from Shanghai. This role is reciprocated by the City of Shanghai in terms of visits to Shanghai by Dunedin delegations. Mr Peter Chin, Mayor of Dunedin, and other civic leaders are amongst those to have been hosted by the City of Shanghai in recent visits. In 2006, the DSA launched a new logo to reflect the growing relationship between the cities. The logo features the flower of Shanghai, the Yulan (magnolia), and a Royal Albatross which represents Dunedin's diverse environment. Taiaroa Head, at the entrance to Dunedin's harbour is the only mainland breeding colony for the Royal Albatross in the world. The Dunedin Shanghai Association also has close ties with the Dunedin Chinese Gardens Trust. The Dunedin Shanghai sister-city relationship was an important factor that enabled the Dunedin Chinese Gardens Trust to develop its relationship with the Shanghai Museum and the Shanghai Construction Decoration Co. Ltd (the Chinese contractor used by the Trust to construct the Garden). Click here to view more information on the Dunedin Chinese Garden. Supported by the Dunedin City Council (www.cityofdunedin.com), the DSA focuses on a number of areas managed by Association sub-committees.
